Day 8- Caterpillar Cages with 2 DOORS + Raising Accessories

With the deep decline of monarch population in the past decade, the monarchs truly need a raising hand, and raising a few butterflies inside protective caterpillar cages can increase their survival rate from less than 5% to over 90%.

Feeding Caterpillars

This is the system we invented to feed growing monarch caterpillars. The floral tubes work better in short peg racks vs. shelf racks because the caterpillars can’t crawl into them to molt or make a chrysalis. The peg racks are also easier to clean.

Day 9-Outdoor Caterpillars Cages + Raising Supplies

9b. Mesh Butterfly Cages to put inside the raised bed cart ⬅️ (15″ x 15″ x 24h”) My recommendation would be 3 mesh cages: 2 for actively raising caterpillars + 1 to release butterflies.

If you don’t use the mesh cages inside the cart you will lose monarchs in the huge raise bed and predators will probably get some of them because the protective netting linked below can still be accessed by some predators. I found a couple wasps and spiders inside ours, but they didn’t get any monarchs because they were inside mesh cages.

I tried using a potted plant (without mesh cages) to overwinter swallowtails inside the raised bed and I can only locate 1 of 4 chrysalides. This wouldn’t have happened inside a mesh cage.
